Brian E. Campbell was appointed to the Board of Visitors on July 1, 2024, by Governor Glenn Youngkin.
Brian is a native of Gloucester, Virginia and can trace his family roots in Virginia over many generations (Nelson and Amherst Counties). Shortly after graduating from high school, Brian enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. He served as both a Security Specialist and Security Instructor. He participated in contingency operations in Egypt (1981), Panama (1982), Germany (1984), and Honduras (1985-1986).
After separating from the Air Force, Brian moved to Charlottesville, Virginia where he was involved in politics and public service. He ran for City Council in Charlottesville in 1994 and was ultimately appointed by Governor George Allen to the State Board of Social Services from 1994-2001.
In 1996, Brian began a career in higher education at the University of Virginia Medical School Foundation (Executive Director). He has since worked at Iowa State University (Senior Director of Development), the Nevada System of Higher Education (Executive Director), Geisinger Commonwealth Medical College (Founding Chief Institutional Advancement Officer), and North Carolina State University (Assistant Dean for Development and College Relations). He currently serves as the Senior Advisor for External Affairs at the Medicines for All Institute at Virginia Commonwealth University.
He holds an undergraduate degree in Business from Averett University and a master's degree from the University of Virginia.
